PUPIL WELFARE
The main objective of pupil welfare is to promote the well-being of a child. The pupil welfare in Kirkonkylä School consists of common and special teaching, health care, dental care, school meals service as well as the services of a school curator and psychologist. When needed in pupil welfare we work as a part of a multi-professional network with the social welfare office and the mental health clinic of Kempele as well as with Oulu University Hospital and other possible professionals working in pupil welfare.
Representatives to the board of the school student body are elected from every class yearly. The board organizes various activities on theme days in our school and cooperates with other quarters. With the money raised through activities the student body provides many kinds of supplies e.g. sports equipment for the pupils´ use. It also participates in sharing the expenses of excursions and helps friend schools in developing countries as well as possible. We also have a role in the action of the children´s parliament of Kempele municipality.
The parents´committee is a channel for parents´ activity in our school. It is a forum for discussion and getting information about current common matters concerning the school and the pupils. Through the parents´committee parents can have an influence on matters regarding their own child and also have an opportunity to participate in the planning of school work. It is rewarding and interesting to work together towards a shared objective.
INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION
Our school has had friendly relationships with Yabeko S.A. Primary School in Sirisia, Kenya since 1994. The cooperation consists of letter-writing, financial and material aid as well as visits and exchange of ideas. The student body and teachers together have collected material and organized fund-raising. The funds have been used for purchasing books and other necessary school equipment for children in Yabeko School and also for furnishing the school.
In 2008 we started a new cooperation with a school in Chennai, India by exchanging cultural work of art and writing letters.
